034 พระอินทร์ปราบวฤตราสูร Vrtra-slaying

พระอินทร์ทรงเป็นเทพผู้ปกครองสวรรค์ชั้นดาวดึงส์ ครั้งหนึ่งเกิดเหตุการฝนไม่ตก โลกแห้งแล้งเพราะอสูรงูกักเก็กน้ำบนฟ้าเอาไว้ พระอินทร์ไม่สามารถต่อกรได้ด้วยองค์เอง จึงพาเหล่าเทพ ได้แก่พระวรุณ พระพาย และทรงช้างเอราวัณเข้ากำราบ

Indra (Phra In) is the deity who rules over the Tāvatiṃsa Heaven (Dawadung). Once, a drought occurred, and the world became parched because the serpentine Asura, Vritra (the serpent/cloud demon), had withheld and trapped the celestial waters. Indra could not fight him alone, so he gathered the other deities, namely Varuṇa (the God of Water) and Vāyu (the God of Wind), and mounted his elephant Airavata, before proceeding to subdue the demon.
