083 วามนพราหมณ์ Vamana

อวตารลำดับที่ 5 ของพระนารายณ์ ในรูปพราหมณ์ร่างเล็กผู้เปี่ยมปัญญา พระองค์อวตารลงมาเพื่อหยุดยั้งอำนาจของท้าวพลี อสูรผู้งยิ่ใหญ่จนเทพทั้งหลายหวั่นเกรง วามนะขอที่ดินเพียง “สามก้าว” แต่เมื่อได้รับคำสัญญา พระองค์กลับขยายร่างเป็นพระนารายณ์ ก้าวแรกเหยียบเมืองสวรรค์ ก้าวที่สองเหยียบโลก ก้าวที่สามหมายเหยียบลงบาดาลที่อยู่ของอสูร ท้าวพลีทูลขอละเว้น ให้ประทับท้าวบนศีรษะแทน ตำนานนี้จึงเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของปัญญาที่เอาชนะอำนาจที่ยิ่งใหญ่กว่า

The fifth avatar of Lord Narayana (Vishnu), in the form of a small Brahmin filled with wisdom. He descended to curb the power of King Bali, a powerful Asura whom even the gods feared. Vamana requested only “three steps” of land. Once the promise was made, he transformed into the mighty Lord Narayana. His first step covered the heavenly cities, the second step covered the Earth, and the third step was intended to step down into the Asura’s abode (Patala/underworld). King Bali humbly asked to be spared and offered his head as the place for the third step instead. This legend symbolizes how wisdom overcomes superior power and authority. represents the act of salvation and guidance for the virtuous to escape danger.
