Shiva NatarajaShiva Nataraja is a form of Lord Shiva who performs the Tandava dance to subdue the demon Apasmara (or Mūlāgni in some legends), the embodiment of Avidya (ignorance). He steps on the demon to prevent it from obscuring true knowledge and enlightenment. The Shiva Nataraja’s sacred dance is an Ānanda Tandava (Dance of Bliss) performed to create balance and creation, allowing all things to move according to reality. The fire surrounding Lord Shiva symbolizes both creation and destruction, while the blue water of the Ganges (Ganga) in his hair represents the genesis of life and its dissolution.
