021 พระวรุณ Varuna

พระวรุณเป็นเทพเจ้าแห่งสายฝน น้ำ และท้องทะเลทั้งหลาย มีหน้าที่บันดาลความชุ่มฉ่ำและสร้างความอุดมสมบูรณ์แก่พื้นโลก ในคัมภีร์ฤคเวทของอินเดียยุคแรกเริ่ม พระวรุณมีบทบาทที่ยิ่งใหญ่กว่าเทพแห่งน้ำในปัจจุบัน โดยถือเป็นเทพผู้ควบคุมระเบียบแห่งจักรวาล และเป็นผู้ปกป้องความจริง ความยุติธรรม และลงโทษผู้ที่ทำผิดคำสาบานหรือกระทำบาป พระวรุณมักมีกายสีขาวหรือสีฟ้าอ่อน (ตามสีของน้ำ) ทรงเครื่องอาภรณ์ทองคำงดงาม มีพญานาคเป็นพาหนะ หรือบางครั้งเป็นมกร ซึ่งเป็นสัตว์ในตำนาน

VarunaPhra Varuna is the God of Rain, Water, and all the Oceans. His duty is to grant moisture and create abundance on Earth. In the early Indian Rigveda, Varuna’s role was far greater than the current God of Water, as he was considered the deity who controlled the cosmic order (Ṛta), and the protector of truth and justice, punishing those who broke vows or committed sins. Varuna is typically depicted with a white or light blue body (reflecting the color of water), adorned with beautiful gold ornaments, and rides a Nāga (serpent deity) or sometimes a Makara (a mythical sea creature) as his vehicle.
