027 ท้าวกุเวร Kupera

หรือท้าวเวสสุวรรณคือ ๑ ใน ๔ ท้าวจตุโลกบาล ท้าววิรุฬหกทรงเป็นอธิบดีปกครองดูแลทิศตะวันออก มีหน้าที่ดูแลปกครองเหล่ายักษ์ และควบคุมเหล่าอสูร ยักษ์ ภูตผีปีศาจ ท้าวเวสสุวรรณ มักปรากฏในรูปยักษ์ยืนถือ กระบอง (ไม้เท้า) เป็นอาวุธคู่กาย มีทั้งภาคหน้ายักษ์ดุดัน และภาคหน้าเทพ ผู้คนเคารพบูชาในฐานะเทพแห่งความมั่งคั่งและเทพผู้คุ้มครองจากสิ่งชั่วร้าย มีความเชื่อว่าสามารถปัดเป่าสิ่งชั่วร้าย ภัยอันตราย และคุณไสยได้ จึงนิยมสร้างรูปปั้นยักษ์ไว้ที่บริเวณทางเข้าวัดเพื่อปกป้องสถานที่ รวมถึง เป็นที่นิยมขอพรเรื่องโชคลาภ เงินทอง และความเจริญรุ่งเรือง

KuveraAlso known as Thao Vessavana (Vaisravana), he is one of the Four Heavenly Kings (Chatur Loka Bala). He is the sovereign who governs the North (the Thai text contains an error stating East, but the traditional direction is North). His duty is to oversee the Yakshas (ogres/nature spirits) and control the Asuras (demons), Yakshas, and ghosts/spirits. Thao Vessavana often appears in the form of a standing Yaksha holding a club (staff) as his weapon, with both a fierce Yaksha face and a benign Deva face. People worship him as the God of Wealth and a Protector against evil. It is believed he can ward off evil, danger, and black magic, which is why his Yaksha statues are often placed at temple entrances for protection. He is also popular for granting blessings of fortune, money, and prosperity.
