พระธนวันตรีคือปางอวตารของพระวิษณุผู้เป็นเทพแห่งแพทยศาสตร์และการรักษาโรค ทรงปรากฏขึ้นจากการกวนเกษียรสมุทร พร้อมถือหม้อน้ำอมฤตอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ นำพาความเป็นอมตะและพลังชีวิตมาสู่เทพทั้งหลาย พระองค์ทรงเป็นผู้ประทานความรู้ด้านอายุรเวท ศาสตร์การแพทย์แบบอินเดียโบราณแก่โลกมนุษย์ เพื่อให้มนุษย์ใช้รักษากายและใจ ในคติไทย พระธนวันตรีจึงถูกบูชาในฐานะเทวดาแห่งสุขภาพ ความคุ้มครอง และการเยียวยา ภาพของพระองค์จึงเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของพลังรักษา ความสมดุล และชีวิตที่ยืนยาวอย่างเป็นสิริมงคล

Dhanvantari is an avatar of Lord Vishnu, the deity of medicine and healing. He emerged from the Churning of the Ocean of Milk (Samudra Manthan), carrying the sacred pot of the Elixir of Immortality (Amrita), bringing eternity and life force to the gods.
He is the one who bestowed the knowledge of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical science, upon the human world, for humans to use in healing both body and mind. In Thai tradition, Phra Thanwantri is thus worshiped as the divinity of health, protection, and healing. His image, therefore, symbolizes the power of remedy, balance, and a blessed, long life.
