นรสิงห์คือปางอวตารที่ดุดันที่สุดของพระนารายณ์ ปรากฏกายในรูปครึ่งมนุษย์ครึ่งสิงห์เพื่อปราบอสูรหิรัณยกศิปุ ผู้ได้พรให้ไม่อาจถูกฆ่าโดยมนุษย์หรือสัตว์ ไม่กลางวันหรือกลางคืน และไม่ในอาคารหรือภายนอก เพื่อทำลายอวิชชาและความอหังการ พระนารายณ์จึงทรงอวตารเป็นนรสิงห์ ออกจากเสาในพลบค่ำ แล้วจับอสูรไว้ตรงธรณีประตู ฉีกอกด้วยพระกรอันทรงฤทธิ์ นรสิงห์จึงเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของ “ธรรมะที่แหวกกฎทุกกรอบเพื่อรักษาความยุติธรรม” และพลังศักดิ์สิทธิ์ที่พร้อมปราบความชั่วร้ายอย่างถึงที่สุด

Narasimha (Narasimha) is the fiercest avatar of Lord Vishnu, who appeared in the form of half-man, half-lion to subdue the demon Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu had gained a boon that prevented him from being killed by man or animal, neither during the day nor night, and neither indoors nor outdoors.
To destroy ignorance (Avidya) and arrogance, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Narasimha, emerging from a pillar at twilight, and grabbing the demon at the threshold (doorway) to tear open his chest with His powerful claws.
Narasimha thus became the symbol of “Dharma (righteousness) that breaks all conventional rules to uphold justice,” and the divine power ready to completely suppress evil.
