076 อาฬวกยักษ์ Alavaka

อาฬวกยักษ์เป็นยักษ์ผู้ดุร้าย ดิมมีนิสัยโหดเหี้ยม ชอบเบียดเบียนมนุษย์และกินคนเป็นอาหาร ตามคติพุทธศาสนาไทย เล่าว่าเมื่อพระพุทธเจ้าเสด็จไปโปรด อาฬวกยักษ์ได้ท้าทายและพยายามทำร้ายด้วยฤทธิ์ทุกประการ แต่ไม่สามารถทำอันตรายพระองค์ได้ เมื่อพ่ายแพ้ต่อพุทธบารมี อาฬวกยักษ์เกิดศรัทธา ละความโหดร้าย และขอบวชเป็นสาวก เรื่องของอาฬวกยักษ์จึงกลายเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของ “พลังที่ถูกปราบด้วยปัญญา” และการเปลี่ยนแปลงจากความดุร้ายสู่ความสงบด้วยธรรม

The Ālavaka Yaksha was a fierce demon (Yaksha) with a cruel nature who used to oppress humans and eat people. According to Thai Buddhist tradition, it is recounted that when the Buddha went to tame him, the Ālavaka Yaksha challenged Him and tried to harm Him with all his powers, but was unable to injure Him.
Upon being defeated by the Buddha’s spiritual merit (Buddhabarami), Ālavaka Yaksha developed faith, abandoned his cruelty, and requested to be ordained as a disciple.
The story of Ālavaka Yaksha thus became a symbol of “Power subdued by Wisdom” and the transformation from ferocity to tranquility through the Dharma (Buddhist teachings).
